A twist to turn all the negative talk the kids are speaking at schools…
The kids are bashing both candidates in the hallways, during lunch, and at the bus stop. It is shameful to hear all the hatred and fear their own parents have exposed their children to. For example, a child asked her mom if it was true that the new president was going to take away women’s rights.
I have to share that my son’s 3rd grade teacher turned this into a positive experience by giving a homework assignment to the kids yesterday. They needed to go home and ask their parents to help them write about what it entails to have an election, the process. It took the focus off the negativity and it put the parents on the spot to speak intelligently. It was very easy for my husband and I because we educate our kids about politics, even at a young age. It also didn’t hurt that my husband is the Hawaii District Captain of the Convention of States and was asked to be a delegate for Convention. This made helping our son with his work easier than for most without an engine search. When we went through the process, I could see how it could point out to parents how we should be speaking to and educating our kids on the process.
Some folks may want to change it but we can still speak about it to our kids intelligently and without hatred.
